What are the COVID-19 Testing Procedures in Russia?

All arrivals should present a negative COVID-19 test certificate (in Russian or English language) dated less than 48 hours before arrival in Russia. A vaccination certificate (no matter what vaccine) does not substitute the PCR-test. There is no quarantine for tourists with a negative test.

!!! Attention !!! Foreign nationals coming from China, Israel are to go through Covid express testing after passing passport control in a Russian airport, and afterward, they have to self-isolate till getting the PCR test results (24-48 hours).

What countries have open borders with Russia but with restrictions?

Please note that opening of borders means permit to issue tourist visas and entry to Russia through air check points, which does not mean opening of direct air traffic as well as opening of land borders. In the list below you can find countries with open boundaries with Russia but without direct air traffic. In this case you can enter Russia through other open countries with direct flights.

What about other countries, which are not in the previous lists?

Citizens of other countries can also visit Russia but the reason is necessary, for example, family, educational, medical reasons, etc. You can check the full information in the Russian Embassy in your country.
Here is the list of open countries with direct flights, but still there is no information about visas. But anyway, it’s a good sign that soon all the visa types may be available for citizens to start travelling.

The Current Situation, Restrictions, Vaccine

Nowadays in Russia the virus is under control thanks to various measures taken by the Ministry of Health and the Government.

In Moscow from March 15, 2022, the mask regime and social distance are canceled due to a stable improvement in the epidemiological situation. But in Saint Petersburg it is still mandatory to wear a face mask in stores or other institutions, including any type of public transport or taxi. The social distance of 1.5 metres is necessary everywhere except in taxis. Hotels are obliged to follow a special protocol for disinfecting surfaces and physical distancing. All the bathrooms are to be equipped with antiseptic gels.

!!! Please note that nowadays all the QR-codes are canceled for any visits to museums, theaters and other sights of Moscow and Saint Petersburg.

Russia is proud of its Sputnik V vaccine, developed by the Gamaleya Institute and based on the adenoviral vectors Ad26 and Ad5. The epidemiological effectiveness of the Sputnik V is 91%. An authoritative medical magazine “Lancet” published the results of the Sputnik V trial that confirms its high efficiency and safety.

Today Russia is the 12th in the world in terms of vaccination by an absolute number of doses. More than 72 mln Russian people have already been vaccinated with 2 components.

If tourists develop any symptoms of COVID-19 and/or if they test positive for COVID-19 during the trip, they will be required to self-isolate for 7 days until they have recovered and tested negative for COVID-19 on a PCR test. In case of a tourist`s disease, all the hotels must contact the relevant authorities, that make decisions according to each specific case: they may allow the tourist to stay in the hotel or isolate him/her in a special observatory.

The tourist must have the special Covid medical insurance that may cover all the expenses, or only part of them, depending on the type of insurance, bought before going to Russia. Our company can help you to get such insurance.

How to Depart from Russia

Should I go through the COVID-19 Testing Procedures before departure to my country?

Before departure back home travelers should also have negative COVID test results, depending on the requests of their country of return.
